MIgrating Corrosion

Migrating Corrosion Inhibitors are clear surface-applied coatings designed to migrate through reinforced concrete and preserve steel reinforcing bars embedded in concrete. The solution forms a protective layer around the steel, typically within a week of treatment depending on the permeability and moisture content of the concrete.

Migrating corrosion inhibitors can be used effectively in the following environments:

  • All reinforced, re-cast, pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete structures
  • Concrete bridges and highways
  • Car parks
  • Tunnels and other underground structures
  • Marine structures
  • Concrete-framed and concrete-clad buildings

The benefits of using migrating corrosion inhibitors include:

  • Protects against corrosion by absorption and vapour diffusion into concrete
  • Migrates to surrounding concrete, reducing effect of anodic corrosion
  • Not a vapour barrier; allows concrete to breathe
  • Reduces existing corrosion and enhances durability of reinforced concrete
  • Time-proven technology giving engineers, contractors, and building owners extension of effective service life of structures
  • Safe to use: water-based and non-flammable, organic and environmentally friendly
  • Does not require removal of good quality concrete
  • Easy to apply by roller, brush or spray
